Originally my proposal was to make a documentary about my brothers mini, but since it keeps breaking down and he is hardly ever around I have had to think of another idea completely, I propose to make a 3 minute video on how to make a coffee but with the twist of it not been a normal household thing but instead a "crazy" science experiment. Instead of having normal names such as milk, coffee, sugar etc I will call thing powder a and powder b, this will add to the experiment style I will also use a gas stove as a bunsen burner to heat up the water "liquid a" instead of a conventional kettle.
Treatment
Treatment Ver 2 Since my original idea has gone down the drain due to technical and mechanical issues, I have had to implement a contingency plan. The is a mad science experiment that is basically making a coffee, but with the added twist of a "monster" been created at the end. The video will explain the experiment using terms such as powder A and liquid B.
So first off there will be a shot of a castle either a handmade castle or a photoshop castle, the camera will then zoom through the door to where the experiment is taking place. A medium wide shot will have the "scientist" mixing his ingredients while explaining what he is doing through a song. As the experiment progresses there will be close up shots as he adds the ingredients then switching back to the medium shot. When the experiment is complete there will be a flash of lightning and a photoshopped image of a monster will appear on the screen before the end credits.
Problems
I encountered a few problems when filming especially with the reliability of equipment, my original idea was to make a 3 minute documentary about my brothers car but due to mechanical failure there car was not running. So I had a think and came up with the coffee monster idea.
The next problem from that was the lighting because I was filming in broad day light but I wanted a dark creepy feel. This was solved by blocking the window and using candles.
Evaluation
Overall this project was interesting I learnt a bit and feel more comfortable in the creation of a short film, if I was going to do this again I would spend more time planning and would prefer a group to work with as ideas can be bounced around to make for a better final product.
